Ruffin S. Tucker papers, 1811-1924 (bulk 1811-1858) [manuscript].

Chiefly financial and legal documents, 1811-1858, relating to land deals of Ruffin S. Tucker and other Tucker family members in and around Raleigh, N.C. Also included are an 1819 marriage agreement from Franklin County, N.C.; an 1827 slave bill of sale from Washington County, N.C.; an 1833 deed for a mill in Orange County, N.C.; and an 1866 deed for land in Pitt County, N.C. There are also deeds, indentures, and estate papers, 1877-1924, that relate to various Tucker family members, especially Rufus Sylvester Tucker. Also included are two handwritten versions of addresses, 72 and 69 p., on the history of Raleigh by North Carolina governor and president of the University of North Carolina David Lowry Swain (1801-1868). These addresses were published by Rufus Sylvester Tucker in 1867. There are also a few newspaper clippings, 1897-1898, that relate to Rufus Sylvester Tucker, and other miscellaneous papers.
